Man United vs. West Brom: Facts, Team News, TV Info
Posted on November 7, 2015
Manchester United welcome West Brom to Old Trafford this Saturday as the Red Devils look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Following three consecutive goalless draws, Louis van Gaal’s side grabbed a hard-earned victory in mid-week against CSKA Moscow via a 79th-minute strike from captain Wayne Rooney. The Red Devils will be aiming to build on their UCL win on Tuesday night as they take on West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
Despite their inability to frequently score goals, the defence has been top notch for the Old Trafford outfit. United have kept seven clean sheets so far this season and have conceded just one goal at home. They have kept clean sheets in four of their five league games at Old Trafford.
On the other hand, West Brom sits at 12th place on the table, and Tony Pulis’ men go into the United game riding the back of a disheartening 3-2 home defeat to in-form Leicester City.
Prior to their loss against Leicester City, they had moved up from the relegation zone with two consecutive victories over a rejuvenated Sunderland side and Norwich City.
United know it won’t be an easy task as they try to break down a strong West Brom side.
West Brom will most probably be looking to keep United at bay while waiting for a counter-attacking opportunity.
Despite the uninspiring football played over recent weeks, United are separated by mere four from the joint table leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.
West Brom meanwhile are 12th in the table and are on the back of a crushing 3-2 home defeat to high-flying Leicester City, who themselves are a place and a point ahead of the Baggies’ opponents this weekend.
Phil Jones and Morgan Schneiderlin are expected to stage comebacks in the game against West Brom.
United Skipper Wayne Rooney is expected to start once again after giving a befitting response to the critics who were calling for his head following series of poor performances this season.
Antonio Valencia and James Wilson are both doubts for the tie while Paddy Mcnair and Luke Shaw continue to be absentees due to long term injuries.
Jonny Evans and Darren Fletcher are both expected to feature for West Brom, but shot-stopper Ben Foster is still recovering from a long-term knee injury. Chris Brunt is a doubt having picked up an injury late on last week.
West Brom will be looking to the attacking quality of Salomon Rondon and Sadio Berahino to get something out of the game.
Manchester United have created the fewest chances of any team in the Premier League this season (81) with West Brom the second worst in that regard (82).
Manchester United have the league’s joint-best defence with Arsenal, conceding just eight goals and a league-high seven clean sheets.
Man Utd have kept a clean sheet in their last three matches in the Premier League.
West Brom have won five and lost just two of their last nine BPL matches on the road.
Having won 1-0 at Old Trafford last season and 2-1 the season before that, West Brom will become only the second team in Premier League to win three successive matches at Old Trafford if they win on Saturday.
Manchester City won three in a row from 2011/12 to 2013/14.West Brom have lost just one of their last five Premier League matches against Manchester United.
West Brom have conceded just once in their five away games in the Premier League this season.
There have been 21 goals between the two teams in their last five meetings including an extraordinary 5-5 draw in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game in charge before his retirement.
Wayne Rooney has seven goals and four assists in his last seven Premier League starts against the West Brom.
